St Neots Air Cadet gains his Silver Wings

On 13th November at 616 Volunteer Gliding Squadron RAF Henlow, after being continuously frustrated by bad weather, Cadet Sgt Ryan Hanson from 2500 (St. Neots) Squadron ATC completed his Gliding Scholarship with a solo circuit of the airfield, indeed he was one of three cadets to go solo that day. His airmanship was of the highest standard, made more remarkable by the fading light conditions as his solo flight was the last flight of the day.

Ryan was presented with his Silver Gliding Wings by Sqn Ldr Dick Bowyer Officer Commanding 616 VGS and is now the second cadet from the Squadron this year to reach Silver standard, the other being Sgt Tom Humphrey who completed his Gliding Scholarship earlier this year.  CI Charles Rogers said “as staff, we all feel very proud as we watch these youngsters stretch their wings for the very first time and we know that it is a moment they will never forget, our warmest congratulations to them both”.

Ten Air Cadets and Staff from 2500 (St Neots) Squadron met the Heroes of the Royal Anglian Regiment recently.

They met three members of “D” Company (Cambridge) Detachment at the Priory Centre St Neots. The Cadets found the evening both informative and enjoyable, in particular speaking to a former Cadet Warrant Officer from 50F( Lambeth) Squadron, Captain Tom Clark.

The Cadets said “how proud they were of the Regiment and they would all like to wish Captain Tom Clark, Captain Graham Goodey and Corporal Gilbert (Gil) Owusu good luck for the future”.
