No 2500 (St Neots) Squadron Band was
formed in 1980 when the Commanding Officer of the squadron realised that
cadets had the talent to play musical instruments, from then on the band
has flourished.
Recently the Band has been downgraded to a Corps of Drums due to not
having sufficient musical instruments available for it to use,
however we have just had come onto inventory a supply of musical
instruments and will be working hard to recruit and train suitable
players so that we can get back up to Marching Band status. (May
2009)Sponsorship and
fundraising franticly took place to raise the much needed money as the
Royal Air Force our Parent Service does not provide for this type of
activity. Within a short space of time enough funding had been raised to
buy the basic band equipment.
Many cadets and staff have had the
pleasure of taking up an instrument and have played locally and as far
away as Stamford, Luton and Cambridge. You will find that through the
demand of the local organisations both military and public, the cadets
could be involved in as many as three bookings in one day. Not only is
this demanding on the cadets but also on the staff and supporters!
The band also has
entered into Competitions at Wing and Region levels and needless to say
has come away with the odd Trophy and Medal. They have entered into the
Full Band, Percussion and Fanfare Sections.
We thank you for your
support.
If you
would like to see the band in action then please contact the Squadron
Bandmaster.
